Laurie B. Remer, Vice President Leadership Essentials Programs
Laurie joined Leadership Howard County (LHC) in 2002. For more than five years, she directed the high school youth programs, Leadership U Program and Youth on Board. Currently Laurie is managing the design and implementation of LHCs newest initiative for young professionals, Leadership Essentials.
Laurie's experience in leadership development began in the early 1980's. At Providence Hospital, she implemented their management development program. While employed at The Environmental Protection Agency in Washington DC, she directed a national leadership program, "The Greater Leadership Opportunities Program," for mid-level employees aspiring to rise to the ranks of management.
Prior to working at LHC, Laurie was Campus Department Chair of Undergraduate Business at the newly created University of Phoenix-Maryland Campus. Here she taught numerous undergraduate and graduate classes to adults returning to school as well as recruited, evaluated and mentored new faculty.
Since Laurie moved to Howard County with her family over 20 years ago, she has been an active community member. Her involvement includes memberships and volunteer activities at Pointers Run Elementary School (2001 2006), Clarksville Middle School (2006- present); HC DrugFree, current executive committee member and past chair (2004- present); Womens Giving Circle of Howard County, past advisory board member and current member of Grants Committee/Founder of Journey, a summer camp program for middle and high school girls (2005-present); Urban Rural Transportation Alliance, past board member (1998-2004); and Shalom School, board member and past president (1993-95).
Laurie earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Cornell University, a Master of Arts in Training and Development from George Washington University and a graduate certificate in Organizational Development from Georgetown University.
